Chapter History
In the summer of 2003, Anthony Aguirre sought to establish a new organization at San Diego State University. He felt as if the university was missing something and wanted to define an organization to fulfill that need. After much research, he discovered Sigma Lambda International Fraternity, Incorporated was the organization that would fulfill that need. After contacting the Executive Office, he received the expansion packet explaining the steps needed to start a new chapter on SDSU’s campus.
Anthony and other interested men established a club on campus called B.O.L.D., standing for Birth Of Latino Dominance. During the next school year, B.O.L.D. continued to recruit other members and make a name for themselves on SDSU’s campus. After much work, they were recognized by SDSU in the fall of 2004. On May 7th, 2005, after many trials and tribulations, the SDSU colony of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Incorporated was established. Five years later, the colony at San Diego State University was chartered, officially becoming the Psi Gamma chapter on February 27th, 2010.
Since our founding, the Psi Gamma chapter has been dedicated to upholding the principles of our organization and personifying what it means to be a Beta Man. Although each of our members comes from their own unique background, we are all united under the privilege of calling ourselves brothers of the Psi Gamma chapter. Over time, our chapter has grown to consist of 53 brothers and has accumulated various awards and recognitions in the fields of scholarship, community service, and cultural awareness, becoming one of the most respected organizations at San Diego State University and one of the most respected chapters within our fraternity. Brothers across the nation understand how passionate we are about the work that we do and understand that we are unafraid to tackle even the biggest challenges in our community and our country. We will continue to work to make our communities a better place for everybody and continue to grow as men and as brothers so that we can better serve our communities.
